DescriptionApollo 11 Crew: Training-Used Page from the NASA "CSM-107 Launch Operations Checklist" Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Buzz Aldrin, Signed and Certified, with Signed Letter of Authenticity. A 5.5" x 8" cardstock page, dated June 1, 1969, with the title "P30 Maneuver" at the top of both sides (L/2-17 and L/2-18). Signed on the front in blue ink: "Used in Training for Apollo XI Buzz Aldrin". Very fine.
Aldrin describes the use and significance of this page in a signed LOA on his letterhead, reading as follows: "Accompanying this letter is a page numbered 2-17 and 2-18 from the CSM 107 (Apollo 11) Launch Operations Checklist, SKB32100080-306. The pages are part of the complete manual that was used in the Command Module Apollo Mission Simulator at the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston, Texas. The page is from Section 2 titled: Boost-Insertion - TLI."
"The entire checklist, including this actual page, was used by all three Apollo 11 crew members: Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and myself... Neil had the command responsibility to initiate an abort if the launch profile or Translunar Injection deviated from the planned events outlined in this checklist section.
"The launch profile was the most intense training we as a crew performed together. The simulator teams would give us all types of warning messages and problems to solve during a simulated launch... This training was a key step which enabled our flight to make the first manned lunar landing on July 20, 1969.
"Both sides, 2-17 and 2-18, have the P30 or computer program 30 maneuver grid pad. They are identical to the version carried on the Apollo 11 mission. Neil has marked through the N44 and wrote N42 on both sides for use while in the simulator.
"I kept this checklist after our mission as a reminder of the all the training that took place back in 1969. I have written on page 2-17: 'Used in training for Apollo XI' and signed that page."
