Apollo 11: Beautiful Pratt-Whitney Golden Fuel Cell Model by Balfour Jewelry as Presented to Neil Armstrong, with Original Case, Directly From The Armstrong Family Collection™, Certified by Collectibles Authentication Guaranty with a Photo Certificate. An incredibly detailed 3.5" tall by 1.75" diameter gilt metal model on a 1.5" tall x 3" diameter base bearing an engraved plaque reading "Neil A. Armstrong" along with enameled Pratt-Whitney and NASA logos. The original velvet-lined storage case, 6" x 3.5" x 4", is included; a Balfour sticker is found on the bottom. This was a very important piece of equipment on the Apollo missions. From the Smithsonian website:

"The Apollo Command Module's primary source of electric power was from a set of three 'fuel cells' housed in the Service Module. Each fuel cell combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity and water. The water was used for drinking by the astronaut crew. Each of the fuel cell power plants contain 31 separate cells connected in series. Each cell has hydrogen and an oxygen compartments and electrodes and in combination produce 27 to 31 volts. Normal power output for each power plant is 563 to 1420 watts, with a maximum of 2300 watts."

A stunning piece, excellent for display. This lot will include an encapsulated CAG Photo Certificate with a Statement of Provenance signed by Neil Armstrong's sons, Rick and Mark.
