William Frank "Doc" Craver: Diving Horse Show Ephemera. "Doc" Carver (1851-1927) was a celebrated marksman who operated Wild West shows concurrently with Buffalo Bill, briefly in partnership with Cody, and is credited with originating the "Diving Horse" act that became a fixture at Atlantic City's steel pier until the 1970's. The act was first introduced in 1894 and continued under Carver's personal supervision until 1924. The "main attraction" of this lot is a 17" x 24" stone lithograph poster titled "Great Carver Show. 40 Foot Plunge on Horseback. The California Girl's Daring Ride" (internal tears and loss at folds, chipping to edges, affixed to a scrapbook page). The verso has various news clippings related to Carver and the show. Sold together with a 17" x 24" display board with two affixed silver prints of Carver and a 1934 newspaper article about him and a 16" x 23" album page with news clippings and advertisements on each side dating back to 1895. Despite protests from animal rights' groups, only one of Carver's horses perished after a dive into the Pacific Ocean. The Carvers always insisted their horses received the highest level of care.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
