SENSATIONAL DIE-CUT CARDBOARD 1933 "KING KONG" MOVIE SIGN. This is one that serious "King Kong" collectors previously could only dream about. Although it is pictured in the original press book, experts advise us that no example is known in modern collections! It was made to stand on a countertop, and folds open to stand freely and give a three-dimensional effect! Dimensions when lying flat: 26½ x 19½". This remarkable artifact is consigned by the man who, as a boy, salvaged it from the theater and took it home to treasure all these years. At the base of the pillar above "Robins" he neatly lettered "Warren, Ohio (the town where he grew up), 1933." On his behalf we sent the piece to one of the country’s top conservation studios, where it received a conservative treatment: a light surface cleaning. Two very minor small creases were mitigated so that they are now all but undetectable. The only restoration is a tiny area, the tip of one of the projecting skyscrapers along the jagged skyline, which was partially missing. It has not been "over-restored," as is sometimes done to items like this, and does not give the impression of having been "worked on." Overall, this sign presents in solid Excellentto- Mint condition. The powerful graphic appeal speaks for itself, and in terms of rarity and desirability of subject this sign must rank in the top echelon of vintage movie collectables. Perhaps the "best" and "most important" object in this catalog! (# This item may require additional shipping charges).
