    Description

LILLIAN RUSSELL-THE QUEEN OF THE GAY 90S..

Please note: Autographs from the Leonard Finger collection have not been autenticated by Spence/Grad but we believe these autographs to be as stated.

Of the many performers who achieved success and notoriety in the Gay 90s, few have achieved any measure of immortality. Lillian Russell, a popular chanteuse and star of musical comedy, is an exception. A woman of exceptional beauty and classic figure, her name and reputation have endured over the years. This lot includes: three Falk cabinet cards, a Dana ivorytype cabinet card, two 166 Sarony cabinet cards (one with horizontal crease), a Mora cabinet card, a cabinet card-size trade card for an Ohio shoe manufacturer, a program for an 1899 breakfast performance for the "Society of Decorative Art" with Olcott and Russell, a 1909 "Greeters Information & Amusement Guide" with Russell on the cover, five different 2 x 3" portraits, a Mora album page with 7 x 12" portraits of Russell mounted on front and back (the earliest known photos of her), a 7 1/2 x 13" SARONY IMPERIAL CARD with gilded edges (highlights painted in white), a mounted 6 x 8" photo of "Lillian Russell Company Private Car ‘Iolanthe’" (Miss Russell holding a chow-chow) and a piece of 1915 sheet music "Sometimes The Dream Comes True."
