    Group of Music and Entertainment Related Materials. A group of sheet music and publications for black productions circa early 1900s. Includes:

    Four Vaudeville and Minstrel Publications
    Various sizes
    Chicago and Franklin; 1921-1929

    A small collection of booklets relating to the creation of vaudeville and minstrel shows around the country. Titles include: Denison's Vaudeville Sketches: The Filming of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin' (1922); How to Put on a Minstrel Show by Harold Rossiter (1921); The Hot Shot Minstrel Book (1926); and Denison's Old Kentucky Minstrel First-Part (1926).

    A black and white group shot of the musical group. On verso also lists the Excelsior Quartette.

    The Virginians Framed Program

    No place; circa 1920s

    A show produced as part of Chautauqua, an adult education and entertainment movement in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th century. The gatherings began much in the style of summer camp formats, and provided adults with various forms of entertainment and learning through speakers, musicians, preachers, etc.

    Majority measuring 10.75" x 13.75"
    New York and Chicago; circa 1901-1917

    Titles included are Negro Spirituals (1917); The VooDoo Man (1901); Good Evenin' (1903); I May Be Crazy But I Ain't No Fool (1904); and I've Got the Finest Man (1912). A postcard of the Late Lieutenant James Reese, the director of the famous 369th U.S. Infantry Band, accompanies the last title.

    Condition: Varying degrees of toning. The edges of some of the sheet music is chipped. Light soiling in places. The back of the Rousseau Family postcard has been worn so that some of the text is illegible. The covers of the publications are toned, else good.
