    Description

    JULIAN ELTINGE–THE FOREMOST FEMALE IMPERSONATOR..

Please note: Autographs from the Leonard Finger collection have not been autenticated by Spence/Grad but we believe these autographs to be as stated.

Prior to Uncle Miltie, the most famous and popular of all female impersonators was Julian Eltinge. Like Berle, Eltinge appeared on Broadway and in films. Unlike Berle, Eltinge specialized in cross-dressing. This lot consists of an extensive collection of photographs and ephemera covering several aspects of the actor’s life. Includes: six Autographed Portraits Signed both in and out of character, three movie stills from "The Widow’s Might", six portraits, a great album with mounted photos of Villa Capistrano, Eltinge’s California home (album also has six mounted photographic cigarette cards and a still with Eltinge, Douglas Fairbanks, James Girard, and Hampton Del Ruth), twenty-seven postcards, a copy of "Julian Eltinge Magazine–The Fascinating Widow", "Friends" sheet music, various clippings, and a souvenir booklet of six postcards for "Julian Eltinge in The Crinoline Girl" at New York’s Grand Opera House. An instant collection!
