    Description

    DON’T PASS ON THIS!.

Please note: Autographs from the Leonard Finger collection have not been autenticated by Spence/Grad but we believe these autographs to be as stated.

Six 19th-century theatre passes and advertising tokens: a 31mm. copper token depicts "Charles Wilson Peale Founder 1784" on the obverse and is inscribed on the reverse "Admit the Bearer. Philadelphia Museum. Incorporated 1821." It is listed in Rulau as PA 395 and in Julian’s book on U. S. Mint medals as Julian UN-22 and is considered quite rare. It was engraved by Christian Gobrecht of the U.S. Mint (VF with some rim bruises on obverse). A two-real Spanish silver coin from 1785 is counter stamped "Kunkel’s Theatre Troupe." The Kunkel's were a family variety troupe from Baltimore. A 23mm. silver token depicts the "Temple of Minstrelsy. Erected 1857" and is inscribed "Admit to Wood’s Minstrels. 561 & 563 Bdway N.Y." (EF) A silver English schilling from 1774 is counter stamped "Admit to Wood’s Minstrels 444 Bdway N.Y." and is contained within a gold, looped frame inscribed "Walter French. May 6th 1853." (French was the manager of Castle Garden at one time). A pair of 18mm. copper tokens are inscribed "1817" and "Admit" on one and "Paid" on the other (GD and EF with reverse scratches, respectively). A very nice grouping.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
