    Dickens on Broadway in 1864

    [Charles Dickens]. Theater Broadside for an 1864 New York Stage Adaptation of Martin Chuzzlewit. New York: Olympic Theater, 622 and 624 Broadway, September 1864. Measures approximately 8.6875" x 22.75". Matted to an overall size of 12.75" x 27.25". A handsome relic from nineteenth-century Broadway and a fine piece of Dickensiana. The broadside announces the "First night of an entirely new adaptation of the celebrated novel by Charles Dickens entitled Martin Chuzzlewit, Dramatized expressly for the Olympic by a Gentleman of New York." Prices ranged from 30 cents (Family Circle) to $10 (the choicest private box). Scattered stains and dust-soiling. Several horizontal creases. Edge wear. Very good condition.
