Very Rare Brass Handled Saber Bayonet, made by Collins & Co., for the Sharps and Hankins M1861 Navy Rifle. 20 1/8" blade smooth and dark gray. No rust or nicks and just one tiny patch of pitting about 6" from the tip, very minor. Nicely marked at base of blade on obverse "Collins & Co. / Hartford / Conn" on obverse, and dated 1861 on reverse. Brass handle showing some minor use but excellent. Spring loaded steel release button perfect. Bears the serial number 563 on the flat of the handle. Only about 700 of these rifles were produced, with 600 being purchased by the US Navy. Brass mounts on the leather scabbard perfect with nice untouched patina. Scabbard body about mint, just showing two tiny areas of finish crazing, really exceptional. A beautiful untouched example of a very rare Civil War bayonet and scabbard.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
