Very Nice Pillow Pommel American Artillery Officer's Saber C. 1815. 30", 1 3/8" wide curved blade. One half of the blade decorated with engraved military and floral motifs highlighted with gilt on fire blue background. The obverse includes floral/scrollwork, arms panoply, and the central theme of a primitive American eagle with shield on breast and 15 stars above. Also marked Warranted at the base. Reverse with floral/scrollwork and arms panoplies. The blade retains 80% of the original fire blue and gilt, the balance a smooth gray patina with absolutely, pitting or nicks, and just a couple of tiny patches of old surface rust. Very nice. The hilt features five balls on the knucklebow and outward branch, with stepped pillow pommel and disc quillon. Flat side carved one piece ivory grip with one tiny chip at top and two age hairlines. Very sound with nice patina. 1/4" flat faced brass ferrule at the base. The hilt retains 50% of the original gilt. A most attractive and quite early American artillery officer's saber.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
