Very Fine Ames US M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber Dated 1857 Blade about mint retaining most of the original luster. Absolutely no rust, pitting or nick, and just a few tiny spots with some hairline scratches. Deep crisp marks. Hilt about mint with very nice untouched patina. One strand of wire broken at top, with no loss, else grip and wire wrap mint. Scabbard with deep, dark smooth untouched patina, with absolutely no dents, rust or pitting, of the same exceptional condition as the sword. Just some wear on the lower edge of the drag from honest use. Really an exceptionally nice M1840 US saber.
