Variant Civil War US M1840 Light Artillery Saber With Original Knot. Blade generally smooth and light gray with just some minor scattered staining, absolutely no rust, pitting or nicks. Marked on the obverse ricasso "CONN / 1862" and on the reverse shows traces of the Ames logo. Blade retains the original leather washer. Regulation hilt perfect with nice patina and some verdigris from the knot. Leather and brass wire wrapped grip also perfect. Retains the original 1" wide wrist strap with the top of the knot but no tassels. Pliable and sound but much finish crackling and some flaking. Scabbard about perfect with just some old light surface rust and absolutely no pitting or dents. The bottom of the drag showing considerable honest use. First example we've encountered.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
