    Description

    U.S. Officers' Eagle Head Sword, Circa 1840. 33" straight blade with gilded etched floral decoration in blued panels. Blade made by Schnitzler & Kirschbaum, Solingen, Germany. Replaced crosshatched bone grips. Ornate brass eagle head pommel and clamshell guard decorated with a Federal eagle and the seated figure of Columbia. Lacking scabbard. The guard is loose, the grips replaced, as noted, and the lower third of the blade has scattered areas of spotting.
