US Officer's Eaglehead Straight Sword C. 1830. 32" straight blade with engraved military and floral motifs retaining traces of the original fire blue and gilt. Balance of the lower portion of the blade smooth and gray with the upper portion of the blade exhibiting some areas of very light pitting. Absolutely no surface rust or nicks. The classic all brass hilt with five balls on the knuckle bow as well as on the outward branch, disc quillon. A sword knot ring is affixed where the knucklebow enters the pommel Very nice crested eaglehead. The hilt is about perfect and retains 90% of the original gilt. Fluted ivory grip also about perfect with nice mellow patina and 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Scabbard retains the two upper mounts with no dents and traces of the original gilt along with frog stud and two carrying rings. Also retains that portion of the leather scabbard, the rest is broken/missing. Good representative example of this pattern sword that was often used by regular US Army officers.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
