    U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry (Dragoon) Saber by Ames Dated 1857. 35 ½-inch bright, slightly curved blade marked "US / J.H. / 1857" on the obverse ricasso and "AMES MFG / CHICOPEE / MASS" on the reverse ricasso. Leather-covered grip with twisted-brass wire wrapping. Brass hilt. Retains leather washer. Bright metal scabbard with two mounting rings. One ring with a circular metal property disc stamped "19". Small hole drilled in the drag.

    Condition: Very good. A nice example with a bright blemish free blade and traces of the original gilt on the hilt. Scabbard with some light surface rust.
