    Description

US M1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber Horstmann, Philadelphia. Blade with smooth gray patina, no rust or pitting and just a few minor nicks. Nicely marked on reverse ricasso "HORSTMANN'S / PHIDALA". Hilt about perfect with nice patina. Grip retains 90% of the original leather just showing some honest worn spots, with the original wire, although loose at the top. The scabbard has an old coat of silver paint under which are visible some scattered areas of pitting, some of it rather heavy, but just one tiny dent.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
