U.S. M1833 Foot Artillery Sword with Presentation. As pointed out in the introduction, while a fine period example of a US M1833 Foot Arty Sword, we believe the inscription to be post period.

Blade excellent, smooth and gray with no rust or pitting and just one nick. Marked at the base on the obverse "United States / 1835" and on the reverse, "eagle / N. P. Ames / Springfield." Brass hilt perfect with nice patina.

The scabbard is excellent with just some surface cracking on the finish, very sound and just one tiny area of flaking at the lower mount. Mounts perfect with no dents and original frog stud. Inscribed on the back of the top mount, "Presented To / Serg. H. E. Sellers / 1st Me. H. Art. / AS A TOKEN OF HIS / SERVICE TO Co. D" Engraving highlighted with additional lines and scrolls. Very well executed but we are of the opinion it was applied post period. Very nice example of an early foot artillery sword.
