US M1833 Dragoon Saber Ames 1836. Overall very nice untouched condition. Quillback blade smooth and gray with no rust, pitting or nicks. Marked on the obverse at the base of the blade in engraved script, "N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1836" and on the reverse horizontally ""United States" above a sprig of oak leaves. Blade retains the original leather washer. Hilt overall about perfect with nice patina, just one very minor dent on the small inboard counterguard, negligible. Grip retains 95% of the original brown leather wrap with just a few small chips and sound. Decorative 3/8" brass ferrule at the base. Nice honest, untouched, example of this rather scarce and desirable US regulation saber.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
