Unique U.S. Model 1850 Staff and Field Officers' Sword. 30 ¾" bright blade with non-standard etched decoration on either side of the blade and a "J. Lauterman" maker's mark in delicate script on the reverse ricasso. The gilded-brass hilt displays excellent workmanship with ornate floral scroll on the pommel. The pommel also displays a capstan, original to the sword, which is unique in our experience. The sword displays only modest wear and is complete with wire-wrapped fish skin grips. The scabbard, slightly shorter than the blade, is constructed of rather poorly made brass fittings and is certainly not original to the sword.
