    Description

Very Scarce College Hill Arsenal, Nashville, Tenn. Confederate Officer's Pattern Cavalry Saber. 33" blade generally smooth and clean with scattered areas of varying shades of patina. Absolutely no rust pitting or nicks. The unstopped fuller extends to the guard and 7 1/2" of the tip. There is a small area at the base of the obverse of the blade with a couple of dents implying it was clamped in a vice at some point, minor. Retains the original leather washer. Distinctive guard with raised panel underneath the leather washer and notably convex joint where the outboard branch attaches to the guard. The guard is near perfect with just a few small dents on the underside and a black ink museum accession number, that appears to be Gunther, also on the underside of the guard. Leather grip about perfect with tight very narrow gauge twisted brass wire. The iron scabbard is really excellent with brass throat and ring mounts and iron carrying rings and large iron drag. The scabbard with smooth dark patina overall and just one very shallow dent on the reverse at the tip. Also a small area of salt and peppering on the reverse side of the drag. Very nice example of the very scarce Confederate saber. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
