    Description

Very Nice American Eaglehead Infantry Officer's Saber C. 1830. 29" curved blade near mint. Decorated for one half its length with engraved floral, scroll and military motifs highlighted with gilt on a fireblue background. Marked "K & S" in gilt panel at the base of the obverse. Blade retains 95% of the original fireblue and gilt, the balance with much of the original luster. Just a few stains and one very small area of old surface rust. Absolutely no nicks or pitting. Very pretty blade. The hilt retains much of the original silver wash. Large quillon decorated with cast floral rosette, langets with spread winged eagle with shield on the obverse and fan like design on reverse. Knucklebow comprised of interlocking scrolls with leaf decoration on the section that enters the pommel. Large crested eaglehead with full backstrap. Carved ivory grip with twisted and single strand brass wire wrap about perfect, with nice mellow patina. 1/2" sheet brass ferrule at the base decorated with embossed leaves. Scabbard very sound with some finish crackling and minor flaking. The sheet brass top mount with ring is clearly an old replacement, with the middle ring mount and lower mount being original with incised line decoration. All three mounts with matching patina. Very pretty sword.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
