Very Fine, Nicely Marked, Brass Scabbard, Thomas Griswold & Co., New Orleans, Confederate Cavalry Officer's Saber. 34 1/2" curved blade very fine with smooth light gray patina, absolutely no rust pitting or staining and just a few edge nicks. Deeply die stamped in the reverse ricasso "Thomas Griswold (in an arc) / New Orleans". Retains the original leather washer. Hilt of regulation form with cast decoration on the quillon, inside and outside of both outboard branches, face of pommel cap and scrollwork with floral rosette where the guard enters the pommel. Hilt overall about perfect with nice untouched patina. Black leather wrapped grip with tight twisted brass wire wrap also about perfect, really an exceptional example of this sword. The all brass scabbard with large accentuated drag, excellent with fine untouched patina and just some minor scattered dents, primarily on the lower 8", all of which appear to be the result of honest use. An exceptional example of this very scarce and desirable maker marked Confederate saber. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
