U.S. Model 1913 "Patton" Cavalry Sword Identified to Sergeant Clarence E. Lester, G Company, 1st Cavalry.
As perfected by famed WWII armor commander General George S. Patton, the sword has a 35 ½-inch straight, bright blade with single central fuller on either side. Marked on the obverse ricasso "U. S. / 5508"; and on the reverse ricasso "SA / [flaming bomb] / 1913". Sheet steel guard with checkered grip. The sword is accompanied by the standard issue canvas covered iron mounted scabbard, this example retaining the seldom complete leather strap for attaching to the saddle. The obverse side of the scabbard is stenciled "G. 1st CAV". The reverse side of the metal throat is roughly hand etched "C. LESTER". The sword is accompanied by consignor-provided documentation on Sgt. Lester, including photocopied extracts and photographs from the 1st Cavalry Regiments 1919 yearbook. Lester is identified in the Company group photograph.
    Robert D. Moser Collection.

Condition: Very good. Modest scabbard wear to blade; scabbard's canvas discolored in areas.
