U.S. Model 1860 Cavalry Saber Manufactured by J. Bleckmann, Germany. A German-made standard pattern 1860 cavalry saber with the Bleckmann bow and arrow logo on the reverse ricasso. The slightly curved blade measures 34½". The saber is complete with the metal scabbard with brass drag. The blade of the saber has darkened with age and bears light surface pitting and small nicks to the edge. The brass guard is loose but the wire-wrapped leather grips are in excellent condition. The scabbard's throat is a later replacement and the scabbard is uniformly coated with light surface rust and pitting. Still, a nice example in good condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
