    Description

    U.S. Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber Manufactured by N. P. Ames. 35 ¾" slightly curved blade marked "US / N.W.P." on the obverse ricasso and "N. P. Ames / Cabotsville / 1846 on the reverse ricasso. Brass guard and pommel. Grooved wood grip lacking most of the leather covering and all the wire wrapping. Metal scabbard with two suspension rings. Blade with a few minor nicks along the edge and with a mottled, smooth grey finish. Scabbard with a few moderate dents, otherwise a nice early example in very good condition.
