    Description

US Model 1840 Heavy Cavalry Saber By S & K. Doubtless one of the original contract of these sabers purchased by the US to 'fill the gap' until Ames was able to begin production of the sabers for issuance to US Dragoons in the field. Very fine example. Blade really excellent with just some scattered staining, no rust or pitting and just one tiny nick. Deeply marked on obverse ricasso Solingen. Reverse ricasso marked S & K. Blade retains the original white buff leather washer. Hilt about perfect with nice untouched patina. Leather and brass wire wrapped grip also perfect. Scabbard excellent, near perfect with absolutely no dents and just some scattered staining/patina and a few small areas of very old surface rust, minor. Choice example.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
