US M1833 Dragoon Saber With Near Mint Blade. Obverse of the blade with just a couple of tiny, negligible stains and script engraved at the base "N. P. Ames / Cutler/ Springfield/ 1839" with JH inspector's mark. Obverse of the blade in similar condition with the exception of some hairline scratches, horizontally engraved "United States. There is also at the base of the blade the very old die stamped numeral 1965. Retains the original buff leather washer. Hilt about perfect with nice dark untouched patina and inspectors' marks on quillon. Grip retains 90% of the original leather, with one large chip in the leather at top on obverse. The wire wrap is missing. Correct original scabbard very good with generally smooth dark patina and just some small scattered areas of very light pitting on the lower third. A couple of very shallow dents which really detract nothing. Basically a superb example of this very desirable regulation US saber with the grip readily restorable.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
