    U.S. Dragoon Saber, Ames Contract of 1833. 33 ¾-inch slightly curved blade with a rounded quill back running its entire length. The obverse ricasso is etched in script "N. P. Ames / Cutler / Springfield / 1838"; the reverse side of the blade marked "United States" above a floral spray. Brass, half-basket guard with wire-wrapped leather grip. Inspector stamped "JM" on the disk of the obverse quillon. Steel scabbard, drag marked "HKC / ORD".

    Condition: Very good. Blade with scattered dark spots from scabbard storage and with pinprick pitting mostly near the tip. Leather grip worn to the wood in spots. Scabbard with numerous light to moderate dents and one old solder repair at the midpoint. Additionally, the scabbard has light surface pitting and age spotting.
