Unusual Form American Eaglehead Officer's Sword Likely The Product Of F. W. Widman. 29 1/2' straight blade now smooth and gray with engraved scrollwork and military trophies. Absolutely no rust or pitting and just a couple of tiny, really negligible, nicks. Retains the original leather washer. The knucklebow is unique in our experience and 3/4" at its widest point, composed of scroll decoration on the inner section and feather like decoration along the outer portion. Heavy scrollwork where the guard enters the slender eagle pommel. The flattened quillon with shell like decoration. Shield shape langets decorated with arrows/scrollwork. The grip is wrapped with alternating strands of copper and twisted brass wire with a 5/8" ferrule at the base decorated with grapevine motif. While it is virtually impossible to detect we believe there is the possibility that the grip has been professionally rewrapped. Plain brass scabbard about perfect, with nice untouched patina. Absolutely no dents with two carrying rings, decorated frog stud, and decorated drag. A very unusual American eaglehead.
