    Transitional Small Sword-Rapier.

    Approximately 38 1/2-inches overall with a 31-inch flattened hexagonal blade. Blade is marked on both sides of short fullers XX IN TOLEDO XX [mark]. Grip is approximately 4-inches long with steel wire throughout. Hilt, pierced and chiseled guards, pas d'une rings and pommel. Ovoid pommel with silver applique of flowers and leaves. C. 1670. Sold together with photocopy of invoice from Edred Gwilliam, Antique Arms and Armour, Berkshire to current consignor stating TRANSITIONAL RAPIER (c. 1670). Dated 23-10-82 [October 23, 1982]. Consignor notes also mentions this sword sold previously by Christies, auction date not available, but small cut-out shows what appears to the this sword described as possibly item 23.

    Condition: Good to very good with age wear. Showing an overall mottled gray patina on blade and hilt. Fine scratches present to metal. Hilt appears to have been repaired. Crude metal and some pitting inside hilt.
