Description

Superb Condition, Beautifully Marked, Confederate Sharp & Hamilton, Nashville, Tenn. Cavalry Saber. 36" curved blade near perfect. Unstopped fuller runs to within 1/2" of guard and 8" of tip. Blade bright and clean, really gorgeous, just a few tiny spots of salt and peppering, certainly as fine an example as exists. Deeply marked in crisp cartouches at the base of the blade on the reverse "Nashville, Tenn. / (S)harp & Hamilton" Hilt also about perfect. The heavy brass D shaped cutlass type guard with median ridge perfect with nice light patina. Iron pommel/backstrap with 1/2" iron ferrule at the base also perfect with nice patina. The grip exhibits a couple of chips in the leather at the top on the reverse else perfect with perfect, tight narrow gauge twisted brass wire. The scabbard, with brass ring mounts, iron rings and drag and throat held in place with two rivets, near perfect retaining much of what appears to be an original old coat of black paint mixing with dark untouched patina. Just a couple of minor dents near the tip, absolutely no rust or pitting. A truly exceptional example of this very scarce, crisply maker marked Confederate saber. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.
