    Spanish-American War Period U.S. Model 1840 Mounted Artillery Officers' Saber. 31 ½" curved blade lightly etched with floral decoration, panoplies of arms, etc. Blade maker marked "M. C. Lilley & Company / Columbus". Gilded-brass hilt modestly decorated with floral scroll. Wire-wrapped leather grips. Plated metal scabbard with gilded-brass mounts and drag. Blade retains approximately 50% of the original plating; guard detached at the pommel; most of gilt lacking from hilt; scabbard with scattered areas of original plating remaining and a few small dents. Good condition.
