Schulyer, Hartley & Graham Staff and Field Officers' Sword Presented to Captain Daniel S. Ellsworth, 86th New York Volunteers, KIA at Chancellorsville, May 3, 1863.
Staff and Field officers' pattern with elaborately etched decoration on either side of the blade. Just above the scabbard's upper mount is engraved: "Capt. Danl. S. Ellsworth. / 86th N.Y. Vols. / 3rd Army Corps. / Killed at the Battle / of Chancellorsville / May 3d. 1863." At some point after his death his father presented the sword to E. G. Durfy, the inscription appearing just below the original. Cursory research fails to find anything substantial about Durfy.

Daniel Ellsworth enlisted at the age of 24 on August 29, 1861 at Hornellsville, New York as a Captain. On November 12, 1861 he mustered into Co. D of the New York 86th Regiment.

Condition: Very good. The blade has tarnished and the scabbard is rather dry. The wire wrapping on the grip is lacking.
