Description

Quintessential 'Attic' Condition example of the Iconic Civil War Confederate Louis Froelich CSA Guard Foot/Staff Officer's Sword. Superb 'in the black' untouched condition with deep dark untouched patina overall. The 1/8" thick cast brass guard with pierced letters CSA exhibits the Roman numeral XV on the back edge. Outboard branch slightly ben, and a small bend at the S, else about perfect as is the pommel. Grip retains about 80% of the leather wrap with the original single strand brass wire perfect and tight. The 30" blade, with unstopped fuller extending to the tip, with deep dark patina and light dry surface rust, but no nicks and absolutely no signs of pitting. Iron scabbard retains 70% of the original black painted finish, the balance a deep dark patina, with prominent lap seam on the reverse. Both brass ring mounts intact with iron rings although the lower mount is loose. Unusual brass throat, with extensions on both sides, originally attached with a single screw, which is now missing. Scabbard with three dents on the lower 12" although the sword still fits perfectly.
A really wonderful example of this very desirable Confederate sword..
