Non Reg Civil War Staff & Field Officer's Sword By Schuyler Hartley & Graham. 32" straight blade profusely etched for half its length. Obverse with floral scroll motifs, military trophies and large spread wing eagle with motto. Small brass "Proved" disc inset in the ricasso with logo, "Schuyler, Hartley / & Graham / New York" surrounding it. Reverse with similar etch and very fancy script US marked "W. Clauberg Solingen" with standing knight. Steel basket guard cut with spread wing eagle with motto above and US beneath with engraved decoration/details. Scroll like quillon. Stepped bird head pommel with full backstrap. Sharkskin grip with wire wrap about perfect. Hilt excellent with dark untouched patina and just some scattered salt and peppering and small spots of old surface rust. The sword retains a bullion knot that appears to be period. Steel scabbard with German silver throat with steel ball serving as a drag. Excellent with just a few very minor shallow dents and smooth dark patina. Two screws, one missing hold the throat in place. While the scabbard fits the sword reasonably well and looks fine with it we believe it is, in fact, a replacement. Still a very nice Civil War sword.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
