Napoleonic War Period British Pattern 1803 Infantry Officers' Sword.
A beautifully preserved example made by the German firm of T. T. Runkel, Solingen. The sword features a 29 1/2-inch curved bright blade with two wide fullers on either side running to within 5-inches of the tip and a false edge running 10-inches from the tip. The obverse side of the blade features a George III cypher and a panoply of arms accented in gilt on a blued panel; the reverse of the blade features the English royal arms and other decorative elements accented in gilt on a blued panel. The top of the blade near the hilt is marked "T. T. Runkel Soligen". The gilded-hilt features a lion's head pommel and knuckle bow incorporating the George III cypher. Ray skin covered grip. The leather scabbard has a large gilded-brass throat, center mount and tip. Both mounting rings are present. The throat is marked "Tatham / Sword Cutler / to his / Majesty / Charing Cross".

Condition: Very good to excellent. Virtually all of the gilt and blue remains on the blade and the remainder of the blade is bright with some moisture spotting from storage in the sheath. Likewise, most of the original gilt remains on the hilt. The leather scabbard has some dry areas with about 60% of the original black finish remaining. The gilded-brass trim has some shallow dents especially the tip, as expected.
