    Mid 18th Century Scottish Basket Hilt Broadsword. 39-inches in overall length, with a 33 1/2-inch double edged blade employing three deep narrow fullers. The two flanking fullers extend only 2-inches from the hilt, while the center extends 7-inches and is marked: X I X NXM X I X N X I X, each character separated by a diamond and seraph. Basket composed of separate pieces forged together, including heart piercings underneath. Two branches at the bottom rear of the basket that extend down 1-inch on to the blade. Dome shaped pommel fabricated without capstan and decorated with deep incised lines. Sharkskin grip wrapped with brass wire.
    Condition: Very good. Blade generally a smooth dark patina with scattered areas of salt and peppering and surface rust. Interior of the basket showing noticeable surface rust, exterior a smooth grey age patina with some salt and peppering. Grip is good.
