Major General Frank A. Osmanski's Army Officer's Model 1902 Sword with Scabbard and Leather Sword Knot.Sword marked Henry V. Allen & Co., New York near the hilt on one side and marked with a six-pointed star near the hilt on the other. The blade is elaborately engraved F. A. OSMANSKI on one side and U.S. on the other, total length is 38-inches. Note: During World War II, Osmanski was instrumental in planning and implementing Operation Overlord for the invasion of Normandy and remained in that position on the continent until the German surrender, for which he was awarded the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster. His publications include "The Operational Planning of Operation Overlord" published in the Military Review in three parts from November 1949 to January 1950, and the books Proposed Fourth Service of Supply and Strategic Feasibility both published in 1959. The Frank Osmanski Papers are in the US Army Military History Institute. As a Major General in Vietnam, he was awarded another Legion of Merit and the Army Distinguished Service Medal. Frank Alexander Osmanski, Major General, US Army, was born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania on 22 October 1913, the eldest son of Dr. Edward and Anna C. Osmanski. He attended Wyoming Seminary where he graduated cum laude valedictorian in 1931. By winning a competitive validating examination, he received an appointment and entered the United States Military Academy, 1 July 1931.
Condition: Very good to excellent. Overall showing light handling wear. Scattered scratches and fine patches of pitting present to scabbard. From the Estate of Robert (Bobby) Palazzo, Westlake Village, CA.
