Lot of Two 19th Century U.S. Officers' Swords. Including: 1) Model 1872 Cavalry Officers' saber, 31 ½" unmarked, slightly curved bright blade. Brass hilt a bit loose; leather covering and wire wrap complete. Complete with plated scabbard mounted with brass fittings. Very good condition. 2) German-made non-regulation U.S. officers' sword with a 32" slightly curved blade marked "Clauberg / Solingen" on the reverse ricasso. Blade is etched with floral decoration, an eagle with outstretched wings, and a "US". The blade has been repaired with brass brazing about 12" from the tip. The half-basket hilt incorporates a Federal eagle motif and the pommel cap is decorated with oak leaves. The fish skin covering and wire wrapping are intact. The sword is complete with iron scabbard, though it lacks the drag. The hilt is loose on the sword and the cutting edge of the blade has several deep nicks, otherwise this interesting sword is in good condition.
