Late 18th Century American Horseman's Saber and Scabbard. 33-inch slightly curved, doubled fuller blade with fire blue finish on lower half. Ricasso with consignor's inventory mark 6 JKL in white. Flat, pierced brass four-slot guard with integral knuckle bow. Incised spiral white bone grip. Spherical brass pommel with integral peened cap. Contained in black leather scabbard with brass throat, frog stud and tip. Throat with consignor's inventory mark 6 in white. Fine untouched condition with the blade retaining 50% of the original fire blue finish with some scattered scratches, the balance a gray patina with some scattered, old, dry surface rust. Small period repair at the top of the ricasso, minor. All brass with nice mellow age patina. There is an age hairline, with no loss, running the length of the grip. The scabbard shows a partial break 4" from the tip, else with finish crackling and some flaking, showing its great age but sound, with all back stitches intact. Brass mounts with nice age patina commensurate with the hilt. Very fine quality C. 1775 - 1790 American horseman's saber in very desirable condition. Truly a quintessential example.
