Description
Japanese Wakizashi Signed Enshū-jū Shimosaka with NTHK Certification. An early Edo period Japanese sword from the Manji Era (1658-1661), signed on the tang and accompanied by NTHK Kanteisho Certificate No. 2474. The blade measures 1 shaku, 7 sun, 6 bu (53.3 cm / 21 inches) in length, with an ubu nakago (unshortened tang) pierced by a single mekugi-ana. The hamon is executed in asai gunome ni wanre majiri, a shallow gunome-midare of clove-shaped forms blended with gentle notare waves, while the tang shows katte-sagari yasurime, diagonally sloping file marks. The sword is mounted in complete koshirae, including its saya (scabbard), which measures approximately 74 cm (29 inches) in length. Attributed to the Shimosaka School, a lineage descended from the esteemed Echizen Shimosaka tradition, this piece reflects both artistry and history.
Condition: According to the NTHK certification, the blade is free of fatal flaws, with no evidence of hagire or significant kizu, and remains in healthy condition for its age.
