    Description

    Japanese Army Officers' Type 19 Kyu-gunto Sword. Signed Blade. 23 ½-inch bright blade; 34-inches overall. Consignor indicates the blade is signed Bishu Osafune Sukesada (circa 1558-1569). Irregular wavy temper line. Gilded-brass handle with cherry blossom motif on the pierced guard and back strap. Wire-wrapped white ray skin handle with wood meguki. Nickel plated scabbard with a remnant of the leather protective cover.

    Condition: Very good. A nice, slightly frosty blade with one or two minor nicks in the cutting edge. Wire wrap partially missing. Scabbard with a green patina and with scattered small areas of plating flaking off. Locking mechanisms needs adjustment.
