Federal Period American Infantry Officer's Saber With Exquisite Blade. The 32" curved blade is unmarked but in superb condition retaining 90% of the original fire blue along with the gilt on the engraved decorations. The balance of the blade bright with much original luster and just some minor stains. Iron stirrup shaped hilt with iron backstrap, flat cap pommel with very short lip and diamond shaped capstan. Original leather scabbard excellent, very sound, with just some finish crackling and minimal flaking. Two carrying rings on the plain scalloped edge sheet iron mounts. The lower mount 7 1/4" long with scalloped edge drag. The upper carrying ring retains the original 3/4" black tarred leather sword sling with small iron roller buckle. A very pretty sword and certainly no later than 1800.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
