Exceptional First Model Kenansville/Froelich Confederate Enlisted Cavalry Saber. 34" nearly straight blade with unstopped fuller that ends within 1/2" of the guard and 10" of the tip in extremely fine condition. No rust or edge nicks and just one really tiny spot of light pitting near the tip, negligible. Really very fine and untouched as is the entire sword. The blade retains the original large, thin leather washer. Guard with rough cast relief panel on the underside and flat branches, the outboard branch with a minor bend. The unique pommel cap nearly flat on top with straight sides and simply cut at an angle with no notch. Oilskin covered grip with single strand copper wire wrap perfect. With the exception of the minor bend in the outboard branch the hilt is overall also perfect with very nice untouched patina. Iron scabbard with brazed brass throat, brass ring mounts of slightly different width and large, heavy brass carrying rings. Large brass drag wit accentuated finials on each end. The scabbard overall with deep dark untouched patina, no bends and just some small scattered areas of light to medium pitting. A choice example of this very desirable and very Confederate cavalry saber loaded with character. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.
