Description

Early 18th Century Scottish Bask Hilted Broadsword. 40-inches in length overall with a 34 1/4-inch double edges flat blade. Three narrow deep fullers in the center on the lower section of the blade. Thickness of the blade swells to 3/16 of an inch for a 1 3/4-inch base forming a rudimentary ricasso. Blade bears the mark: XxSxXxAxXxHxXxAxXxGxXxVxXxNxX on both side in the center fuller. Pierced iron basket with decoration on all edges of the piercings and 1 3/4-inch wide rolled scroll like quillon. Domed pommel with incised line decoration and capstan. Guard is constructed of multiple pieces then forged together. Leather grip with brass wire wrap.
Condition: Very good. Blade smooth and grey with some scattered salt and peppering. Interior of basket a deep dark patina, the exterior a light grey with some pitting. Leather in great condition.
