Classic Indian Princess American Militia Officer's Sword C. 1830. An exceptionally nice example of this classic and uniquely American officer's sword. 29 1/2" blade decorated for one half its length with fireblue and gilt highlighted engraved decoration. Fireblue terminates in scroll motifs on both sides. retains 80% of the original fireblue and gilt. The remainder of the blade generally clean and bright with just some very minor staining and one tiny nick. Hilt retains 50% of the original gilt. Classic form with plain reverse P knucklebow, very nicely and profusely decorated bust of Indian princess with head dress on pommel, and shield shaped langets with spread wing American eagle with shield. Mother of pearl plaque grips with triple brass wire wrap, and 1/2" scroll decorated ferrule at the base. Hilt overall about perfect. Brass scabbard with scroll/floral decoration at the ring mounts and lower 6". Decorated frog stud and drag. Missing one brass carrying ring although the base is in place and easily replaced. A couple of dents on the lower third of the scabbard, else excellent. The scabbard showing traces of gilt in protected areas. A very nice untouched example of this iconic American militia officer's sword.
