    Description

Classic Example In Exceptional Untouched Condition of the Kenansville Enlisted Cavalry Saber. 35 1/4" curved blade with unstopped fuller that extends nearly to the guard and to within 8" of the tip in really excellent condition. Overall generally bright and clean, but untouched, with just a few minor scattered areas of patina and absolutely no rust, pitting or edge nicks. Rough cast recessed underside of the guard with integrally cast projection where blade enters the guard. Classic form guard with slightly beveled edges and Roman numerals VIII visible on one edge, with the same Roman numerals on the top of the scabbard throat. Round faced branches with plain, nearly flat, pommel cap with casting flaw on one side. Guard overall about perfect with pleasing untouched patina. Grip appears to be wrapped with leather and very fine gauge twisted brass wire also about perfect. Iron scabbard with brass throat and ring mounts, iron carrying rings. The throat affixed with brass rivets. Crude iron drag. Scabbard excellent with absolutely no dents, prominent crude back edge seam, and retaining most of what appears to be an original coat of reddish brown paint. The balance a smooth dark patina with just a few small scattered areas of minor pitting. A wonderful example of this classic Confederate cavalry saber. Ex-Steve Hess Collection.
