    Description

Civil War US M1860 Naval Cutlass With Scabbard And Frog. Blade generally smooth and gray with no rust or pitting and just a few tiny nicks. Dated 1862 on the obverse ricasso with Ames scroll logo on reverse. Blade retains a portion of the original leather washer. Brass hilt near perfect with nice patina, no dents and just a few tiny ripples on the turned up edge of the cup. Black leather grip very sound and excellent with just a few surface flakes and without wire as is correct.
The copper riveted scabbard has much finish cracking, some flaking, missing small piece on the back side just above the tip, but still intact to the tip. The original copper riveted Y shaped frog also with some finish cracking/flaking but sound. Small additional hole above the frog stud. Very nice sword and restorable scabbard.

From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
