    Civil War Era U.S. Model 1852 Naval Officers' Sword. Features a 29" bright, slightly curved blade, the obverse etched with floral decorations, ring of stars, a panoply of arms, and fouled anchor and shield, the reverse with floral decoration, anchor and a ribbon with the letters "U.S.N." The back of the blade is also etched with floral spray and the words "IRON PROOF". The grips are wood covered in fish skin and wrapped with twisted gilt wire. The gilded-brass hilt is in the standard form . The blade has scattered dark age spots and an area of shallow pitting about 12" from the point on either side of the blade. The hilt retains little of its original luster but retains sharp detail and is in overall very good condition.
